Hello Readers! This post features Act of Kindness Essay in English
Kindness means gentleness. It represents a feeling of caring and tenderness. Also, it is something that makes life so much easier for us. We always want our friends and family to be kind to us. At our workplace, a few soft words from our employer can make our day. Moreover, we get motivated to work twice harder than before if our boss treats us with kindness while interacting with us.
Lydia decided to part with her collection of books when she packed up to leave her hometown for good. After the demise of both her parents, she did not feel the desire to stay on in her village. So, when she got a job in Delhi, she decided to sell her old cottage in the outskirts of Titabor in Assam.
Lydia had always been an avid reader. Consequently, her books were her most precious possessions. She’d collected them over the years and was incredibly proud of them. Besides, she had an assortment of books belonging to different categories. She loved both fiction and non-fiction, self-help books, biographies, humor and comics.
There was a group of youngsters in her neighborhood who were as passionate about reading as Lydia herself was. In the past, they often visited Lydia with the hope of borrowing a few books to read. Although Lydia did not like to share her collection with other people, she never disappointed her visitors. Rather reluctantly, she’d venture into her bedrooms and pick up a pile of books to lend to the hopeful book lovers. She would give a book to each of her visitors and would sternly warn them to return them to her on time.
Now that she was leaving the place for ever, Lydia underwent a sudden shift in her emotions. She fetched twelve empty cartons from a grocery shop nearby. Then, she filled up these paper cartons with her books. Her young neighbors were in for a big surprise the next morning. On opening their front doors, each of them found a carton of books outside. In her note to her young friends, Lydia had written that in the present world where more and more people were getting addicted to their mobile phones, she found it rather heartwarming to discover that there were still a few youngsters in her village who chose to cling to a good novel than a smartphone.
She apologized for being rude to her young friends on some of the earlier occasions when they had visited her with the hope of borrowing a book to read. Lydia’s kind words in her letters moved her young reader friends deeply. Honestly, they had never expected her to be so gentle and giving by nature. After all, they had each known Lydia to be intensely possessive about her books, and now they were all both baffled and moved by her sudden decision to donate all her prized belongings to her neighbors in the village.
We must always remember the truth that it is in giving that we get joy. No human being has ever known to become poorer by being charitable. The act of giving opens our doors towards peace and prosperity. By caring about others, we feel as though our own pain and hardship have melted away. Additionally, the best way to live a blissful life is by reaching out to the poor and needy people of the society. As we get involved in the task of relieving others of their woes, we tend to forget our own challenges.
Why kindness is important in life?
Kindness is important in life because it is the most important requirement for establishing peace and security around us. Without it the world will become chaotic and hell-like. Besides, without kindness, the world will also not last. Everyone would become aggressive. Life would lose its meaning and beauty. Kindness nurtures us. It builds our confidence. We learn to depend upon one another while meeting with the varied challenges that life brings along our path. The love and caring nature of our family, friends, relatives, neighbors and work-mates makes us happy and energetic. The kindness of the people in our lives makes us hopeful and optimistic towards our future.
How can we show kindness to others?
We can show kindness towards others in a number of ways. Some of them are listed below:
Taking care of the pets while our neighbors have gone on a holiday.
Also, offering dinner to a sick person living nearby.
Assisting the old and disabled with grocery shopping.
Checking out on a relative from whom we haven’t heard for a while.
Taking out our house help for a movie and a meal.
Giving time to the elderly people in our house.
Supplying food to our neighbors at the time of an emergency.
Making our new colleague at the office feel comfortable.
Sending a gift to our gardener or security on a festive occasion.
Offering to pay for a poor hungry child on the streets.
Sharing the umbrella with a pedestrian when it is raining.
Offering to do baby-sitting for a single mom’s child for free.
Attending upon a sick relative or friend at the hospital.
Offering to clean up the kitchen when mom is busy or tired.
Accompanying an old couple for a walk.
Helping a disabled person to cross the road.
Offering one’s seat to an elderly person or a woman carrying a baby, while commuting by bus.
Helping one’s colleague in the workplace if he/she is sick.
Celebrating birthdays or other festive occasions at an orphanage or old age home.
Sending a ‘thank you’ note to people in one’s everyday life, whom one usually forgets to thank.
How can kindness change the world?
Kindness is a virtue that can soften the most hardened soul. The adversities of life tend to make some people totally demotivated and disillusioned. They end up losing faith in humanity. They become violent and abusive. They learn to rebel. They take up arms. Poverty is a situation that leads people towards deceit and crime. Kindness is one of the means that has the potential to restore order and normalcy in a disorganized world. It can sow the seeds of trust and faith. The poor and afflicted people will get a chance to experience goodness only if they have kind, compassionate souls coming to embrace them, and ease the problems that they are facing.
