My Favorite Dress Essay

Hello, Readers! This post features My Favorite Dress Essay
My favorite dress is an old cotton polka-dotted frock that my grandmother gifted to me. I’m quite attached to it emotionally because it is one of the very last gifts from her.
Today, when she is no longer alive, I find myself wearing this frock more often than I did in the past.
I think about the wonderful times I shared with her over the last few years before she died. My frock is baby pink in color.
It has tiny white polka dots on it. The collar and the pockets have white lace. I team this dress with a pair of pink heels and a white sling bag made of jute.
This dress of mine has proved to be quite lucky for me on several occasions. Whenever I went out for grocery shopping in this dress, I never returned home without having won a free gift from the departmental store I’d visited. A couple of times, I went out to click some photographs wearing this dress.
Each time I did so, the photos came off really well. I remember attending several birthday parties wearing this simple cotton dress. My sisters often chided me for wearing that old frock to parties because my other friends wore much fancier stuff on such occasions.
They thought that the pink frock had become too old and faded to be sported on festive days. However, I never cared about what they thought about this dress.
It is one of my most prized possessions. This garment has given me immense joy and contentment every time I have worn it.
One of the most important things that I have noticed about this pink frock is its versatility. It can be adapted as a dress for a variety of occasions.
One of my neighbors borrowed it to perform the role of a piano teacher on stage. Another friend borrowed it play the role of a doctor.
Although it’s a light colored dress, a bit faded here and there as well, my pink frock has never ceased to attract attention. It’s my favorite dress not just because it was a gift from my grandmother but also because it has been much sought after by others. The old fashioned design of my frock has charmed quite a few of my friends.
Over the past year and a half I have collected many accessories to match with my pink frock. I have three high-heeled sandals, a Japanese umbrella, two handbags, three bracelets, a large straw hat, a watch, hair clips and even a pearl necklace to team up with my cotton frock.
Although, I have washed it so many times in the past, the fabric is still fine. If I maintain it well, I will be able to wear it for another five years or so. I take good care of my frock and iron it regularly and then keep it neatly folded in the bottom drawer of my wardrobe.
The memory comes to me of the day on which my grandmother had persuaded me to accompany her to the market as she wanted to buy something important. Of course, she never gave me any hint that she wanted to buy some fabric with which she could stitch a dress for my birthday.
On that day, I wasn’t in the mood to go out because I had had an argument with my sisters over some household work and I wasn’t in the best of spirits. However, my grandmother insisted that I should accompany her to the market as she had something urgent to purchase. I agreed reluctantly and got dressed to go out.
We checked out several stores, but granny was not very happy about the fabrics that were shown to us. She said that she couldn’t find the perfect shade of pink that she was looking for.
Although I was a little irritated with her fussy nature at first, my joy knew no bounds when I realized that my beloved grandmother was looking for something special to buy for my birthday!
Her gesture touched me. It was a surprise that I will never forget because it was delivered to me in the most unexpected way!
Eventually, when we found the pink and white polka dotted fabric, both grandmother and I were exhilarated. The texture of the cloth looked so divine!
Grandmother made the purchase hurriedly. The two of us were so excited about the soft fabric that we chatted continuously.
The two of us visited some more shops from where my grandmother picked a matching belt and a handkerchief for me. After our shopping was done, we visited a coffee parlor. Grandmother ordered coffee and pastries for the two of us. She also bought plenty of cookies for my sisters who were at home.
The entire occasion related to the purchase of the pink fabric and the frock which my grandmother stitched out of it later, is special to me because it was one of my very last outings with my grandmother. She fell ill shortly after my twenty-first birthday, and died soon after.
This garment that she tailored for me is a warm reflection of her love and affection for me. She gifted me this frock with great joy and enthusiasm and today it has ended up giving pleasure and satisfaction to not just me but a whole bunch of my friends as well.
Last week, I purchased some cotton fabric which is similar to the one my grandmother bought for me ages ago. It’s a cloth with blue and white polka dots on it. I have stitched two frocks which are quite similar to the one that was stitched by my grandmother.
I intend to give each of these frocks to my friends who had borrowed my pink one and had fallen in love with it so much that they hadn’t wanted to return it to me. I’m sure the gifts would be wonderful surprises to them.
This is my way of thanking my friends who had genuinely adored a simple dress that an old woman had made for her granddaughter with such love and affection.
