Tit for Tat Amplification

Hello, Readers! This post features Tit for Tat Amplification

Tit for Tat Meaning

‘ Tit for Tat’ means to treat others exactly the way you have been treated. The words also imply revenge for wrongful actions. Hence, ‘ tit for tat’ are not positive sounding words. Because of the complexities in life, a ‘tit for tat’ attitude does not work at all times.

What is the tit-for-tat response?

When it comes to a relationship between people, or two communities, organizations or even nations, people have this urge to give the same kind of treatment that they had got from the other. This kind of thought process is hugely damaging in a social or political set up.

Communal friction can crop up due to this ‘tit-for-tat’ way of taking things. We must understand that paying back in the same coin is not always a good idea. For instance, if two fighting communities decide to hit back¬† just because they have been hit, it would be very difficult for the government to restore law and order in the area.

Is tit-for-tat good in a relationship?

In personal relationships, ‘tit for tat’ is good if one decides to be kind and loving towards the other after having received with love and care by the other person. However, trying to take revenge on a friend or family member or neighbor just because the other has been rude is not a positive idea and should not be encouraged.

Similarly, working people should exercise self-control if their boss is nasty. Trying to be critical of the other person may even cost a person his job. Therefore, it is important for a working person to refrain from getting bitter with an employer. Instead, the concerned person should try to figure out why the boss behaved in that unpleasant way. Thinking coolly and logically can help an employee to fix a whole lot of office woes.

Tit for Tat Examples

  • A husband may forget to wish his wife on her birthday. Of course, he might not avoid wishing her purposely. He might forget as he is busy with work; or maybe he hasn’t had a good day at office. Or, maybe, he’d had a difference of opinion with his wife, and is sulking now. Whatever, the reasons might be, the wife should not repeat what her husband had done. She should not plot to pay back in the same coin by ignoring her husband’s birthday.¬†
  • However, the ‘tit for tat’ proverb is applicable when somebody has been kind and hospitable towards another. The other person should return the favor done to him in a similar manner. Generosity and goodwill should always be repaid in the way in which they have been received. Then, the world will become a better place to live in.

Tit for Tat Conclusion

Our actions define our destiny. If we do good to others, we will most certainly receive a fair treatment from other people. And even if we don’t, we will learn to overlook the lapses and forgive.

Also, we’ll learn to move on. There are challenges in every step of our day to day life. Yet, we have every chance of spreading the message of positivity by being kind to our family, friends, neighbors, colleagues or even strangers. Our selflessness and compassion will inspire others to treat us with love and affection.
