World Environment Day 2022 Essay

Hello Readers! This post features World Environment Day 2022 Essay.
We were all eagerly looking forward to the celebration of World Environment Day, 2022. Owing to the restrictions of Covid-19, we hadn’t been able to observe this event for the previous couple of years.
This time, the World Environment Day fell on a Sunday. At first, there was quite a bit of suspense and speculation about when the event would actually be celebrated. Some of our classmates at school thought that we might be celebrating it on the 4th, which was going to be a Saturday.
The others thought that we might be observing it on the 6th, which would be a Monday. Eventually,  on the 30th of May, some of the senior students of our school and the teachers sat down for a meeting.
Then, it was decided that World Environment Day, 2022, was going to be celebrated on a Sunday this time, on the 5th of June itself. We were overjoyed!
Undoubtedly, it was a blessing to visit school on a non-working day. We didn’t have any books to carry. Nor did we have any studies. Also, we had no routine classes! It was definitely going to be fun!
The preparation for the celebration of World Environment began on the afternoon of the 30th of May, after the meeting between the teachers and students was over. Additionally, the decision was made that an art and craft exhibition would be held on the assembly ground outdoors. Our teachers asked us to make items like paper bags, tetra pack bird feeders, shoe box bird houses, nature collages, etc.
Obviously, our excitement knew no bounds. After reaching home that day, I made a list of the number of items I would need for the exhibition the following Sunday. More specifically, I was keen on making a tetra pack bird feeder.
The idea of attracting multi-colored birds to my window sill often appealed to me. I looked for a pair of scissors, a tetra pack, a thin rope, glue, dry fruits, nuts and an assortment of pulses. It was going to be an amazing project, and I was thrilled.
On the morning of June 5th, the function began with a sanitation drive. In other words, the students of Classes 9, 10 and 11 and the teachers got together to clean the school campus. Honestly, we didn’t have much to do because our fields are always neat and well-maintained. Thereupon, we decided that we would clean the neighborhood.
Once we were back in our school compound, we rushed for a quick wash. Then, everyone was ready for the day’s schedule. Michael Goldsmith, our Social Science teacher delivered a powerful and inspiring speech.
He spoke about the history of the World Environment Day. More specifically, the guy talked about how it began during the United Nations Conference on Human Environment at Stockholm, in Sweden on the 5th of June, 1972.
After the conclusion of the speech, we had a plantation drive. Each student and teacher took turns to plant a sapling along the boundary wall of our school campus.  Consequently, all of us planted saplings of coconut, jackfruit, guava, mangoes and gooseberries in large numbers.
Our team had planted saplings on green and white colored earthen tubs. They looked pretty from a distance. The collage making activity was something that was fun, engaging and delightful.
We went around the school campus to find fallen leaves, petals, pine cones and twigs. Thereupon,  we used these items to make our nature collages.
To sum up, the exhibition turned out to be a platform where we got the chance to share knowledge, display our creativity and express our commitment to the task of saving the earth by living in a sustainable way, We also learnt how to live in harmony with nature.
The participants displayed jaw-dropping posters and slogans. It never occurred to us that as school-going students we could think so innovatively and resourcefully. Forthwith, we walked around proudly as a section of people from the media clicked photographs of our work.
Also, the guests  were delighted with our presentation. Each visitor received a paper hand bag and a eucalyptus sapling to take home.
The World Environment Day officially began on the 5th of June, 1974. Furthermore, the year 2022 marks the 50th year of the Stockholm Conference. Moreover, the aim of the World Environment Day celebration is to inspire and bring together the people from the different communities and countries to take ecofriendly steps to save the environment of the earth.
We have only one planet on which there is life. This planet is our home, our earth. It is important to save it.
Air, water and plastic pollution, illegal trading of wildlife, the increase in sea level, food crisis and sustainable consumption are some of the major concerns of the people worldwide. Besides, it is extremely important for us to be alert and active and come out with creative ideas on making the earth a safer and greener place to live in.
